Fourteen years ago Eric and Christy McMahon gazed upon the hills of Roxborough as they drove through Pennsylvania during a road trip, dreaming to one day live in Philadelphia. Originally from Memphis Tennessee, the family of 8 (Eric, Christy, their 5 children, and dog Buntyn) relocated to Philadelphia two years ago to plant Watershed Church. They visited a few homes in Roxborough and fell in love with the neighborhood's suburban charm and friendly neighbors instantly. “The people were so friendly and nice, it felt like home”.

Since planting roots in Roxborough, the McMahons have enjoyed the neighborhood's small town feel, green space and access to Wissahickon Valley Park, easy accessibility to the city, our community events, and most of all how active our community is. “We love how involved the community is,” said Eric. Eric & Christy are no strangers to community involvement themselves seeing as though Eric serves on the RDC’s Marketing & Events Committee while Christy photographs local community events.

As parents Eric & Christy are appreciative of the affordable community resources available to their family through local recreation centers, the Walnut Lane Golf Course’s First Tee Program, and local community events. “Our kids can have fun at a festival and we don’t have to go broke” said Christy as she explained how much her family enjoys Roxborough’s community events.

As Watershed Church continues to grow, so does Eric and Christy’s passion and enthusiasm for Roxborough. When asked to describe Roxborough the couple replied “home”. The McMahons take pride in being Roxborough residents for our famous cheesesteaks, notable parks, and authentic feel but most of all because it’s home.
