Attorney Peter L. Johnston is a man on a mission. The Roxborough resident who maintains four offices–  one in Center City, one in New Jersey, one in Reading, and one in The Vault at 6128 Ridge Avenue–  insists that Roxborough is being underserved.

He said, “While there are other attorneys in the area, I believe I am the only one practicing personal injury, immigration law, and the drafting of wills or estate documents. And, in those areas, people in the community can stay right here to get their needs met.”

But Johnston, 52, whose practice serves a full spectrum of legal needs, cares about all the things affecting the people in his community “regardless of race, economics, or religious backgrounds. “I am proud to be a successful small businessperson here in Roxborough since March 2008.”

Originally from Hightstown, New Jersey, Johnston wasn't sure what career path to follow, although he always knew it should be something involved with helping others.

His journey began by coming to Philadelphia to attend Sant Joseph's University. In 1991 he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History, a minor in Theology and a Faith-Justice Studies Certificate.

In the year following graduation, he went to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands to teach religion to students at St. Joseph's High School (no relation to the university).

He next attended Seton Hall University of Law, graduating in l996. And after living in Main Line Philadelphia and Manayunk, he eventually settled in Roxborough and began the long and successful journey of being of service to others.

Today, Johnston has admission to the bar in the United States courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Currently he is a member of the Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Bar Association, and the Brehon Law Society (a professional association that fosters the profession of law among individuals of Irish ancestry).

“In my personal life, I am a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and the Irish American Baseball Society,” Johnston said. “And, locally, I have served on the Board of Directors for North Light Community Center in Manayunk and I was one of the participating businesses at Roxtoberfest."

Johnston has sponsored the RDC's Roxtoberfest at the gold level several times supporting our effort to provide a fun family event for Roxborough residents.

Johnston said he handles a variety of cases, many of which stand out in his mind… a woman who was bitten by a pit bull, a couple injured on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and  a man facing deportation.

“He was from a different country and was worried that he would be deported. But, with my help, he's now achieved citizenship and is settled happily in America.”

Deeply committed to helping others, Johnston said “This is the kind of work that makes what I do so worthwhile. My work is interesting and never boring. And I actually love what I do.”
