Thanks for joining us for Roxborough Spring Fest 2024! Despite the drizzle, you brought your umbrellas, bright smiles, and ready-for-anything attitude to the RDC’s annual spring festival on May 18th.
On the Main Stage at Lyceum Avenue, local musicians captivated the crowd with their talent. WILDANGER, led by Michael Devigne (a previous RDC Executive Director) kicked off the festivities, while The Mitchell Street Phillbillies were welcomed with not one, but two, encores. The Wild Hymns, The Providers, and Sofia DeVitt offered up soulful ballads and high-tempo renditions of old favorites, while Lia Menaker and Acoustic Ferrari filled the nearby Pocket Park with acoustic tunes.
New to Spring Fest was the RoxYunk Porchfest Stage on the corner of Ridge and Leverington. Programmed by our friends at RoxYunk Porchfest, this stage featured local acts - including GPS, Ethan Cain Band, Henry Golden, and Sacred Monsters - and even a wild T-Rex!
The street festival also provided an opportunity to explore the work of over 60 local artisans, non-profits, and small businesses. Visitors discovered their next favorite local brands - including hand-trimmed bonsai trees, artisan-made jewelry, and small-batch spice blends - while supporting local makers. Live pottery demonstrations from Edna Rambo had people lining up to try their hand at the wheel. Additionally, two hundred unique Student Art Showcase submissions from Roxborough area schools and students filled the corner of Ridge and Green with color.
There were entertainment options for visitors of all ages. Flyleaf the Book Fairy filled the cloudy sky with gigantic iridescent bubbles and read stories, while families bowled and played mini golf (courtesy of First Tee) in the Kid’s Zone on Dupont Avenue. Adults especially loved the 20+ food truck (including several award-winners) and drinks courtesy of our partners at Chaddsford Winery and New Ridge Brewing Co. New to the festival this year was Marshall James Kavanaugh, aka Dream Poet For Hire. Armed with his trusty typewriter and lyrical style, Marshall dazzled attendees with custom poems written on the spot.
As with all RDC events, Spring Fest would not be possible without the generous support from our sponsors. We would like to extend an especially big thank you to the following sponsors: MGMT Residential, Independence Blue Cross, European Wax Center, Baker Street Partners, KenCrest, The Galman Group, and New Ridge Brewing Co. We'd also like to thank Chaddsford Winery, Green Mountain Energy, NRG, Renewal by Anderson, Liberty Veterinary Clinic, S&T Bank, Tierview Development, The Rounds, Philly Foodworks, Delta T Group, Sundance Vacations, Vybe Urgent Care, Power Home Remodeling, AFC Urgent Care, Ridge Carlton Apartments, Heart N Rhythm Nursing, and Ray's Appliances for their generous support.
